My Experience

Why I Chose To Get Vaccinated

I am officially vaccinated! I cannot believe it, I’m so excited. I received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine and as of today, I am considered fully vaccinated. This decision came with a lot of back and forth for me. I wasn’t sure whether I should get it or not. Not because I didn’t want it but because there was a question about whether I would have an allergic reaction. After being hospital free for over a year, the prospect of having a reaction was terrifying.

Ultimately, I had to make the choice. After getting a job, it was clear that the risk of being exposed daily seemed too high. A little too close for comfort. I work at a senior residence facility and although all residents are vaccinated, visitors are not. I still have to interact with at least fifty people every shift. That’s a considerable amount of exposure.

The decision came as a result of fear. What am I more afraid of, covid or anaphylaxis. Both are potentially deadly and terrifying. However, anaphylaxis is treatable. Covid although treatable in most scenarios, can be lethal for even healthy individuals. With all my health issues, it seemed like a foolish risk to take.

The factor that is unknown to everyone is long term effects. I have no desire to develop more health issues. Even if I had Covid and came out unscathed, it’s hard to know how that would affect me long term. That being said, the chance of me being free from intense symptoms with Covid is minimal. With my nervous system issues, any time I get sick that will exacerbate my normal every day symptoms.

I feel confident I made the right choice for my body. It wasn’t exactly smooth sailing, I did have a reaction. You can check out Friday’s post to see what happened! I feel excited and hopeful about the future. I think that although this isn’t a chance at freedom, it makes me feel a lot safer. It allows my world to open up a bit. I think that is worth it.

I hope you’re having a great day. I hope that your day is filled with joy, positivity, and laughter. I hope you find peace, love, and happiness.
