Tips for Having FUN at Home
Some or most of us are pretty much stuck at home during this coronavirus pandemic. It’s important not to let yourself wallow in the fear and anger that has come about with being stuck. Most people are not aware of what it is like to have to spend extended periods of time in the house. For those of us with chronic illness, we often have to spend extended periods of time in the house. Either way, it’s a good idea to keep your mind occupied and stimulated. Here are my best ideas for staying busy and HAVING FUN while at home.
- Play Games
If you have others around your house, invite them to play a game. We don’t have to be alone during this dark time. Take time to appreciate the company and play board games. If you don’t have board games, download games like “Head’s up” or any other app that can get you and a loved one engaged.
- Draw
Emotions are running high. Everyone is feeling stress in one way or another right now. One great idea is to draw and draw anything. Don’t get caught up in looks. Let some of those emotions out on the canvas. You might feel a bit of relief afterwards.
- Learn Something
If you’re anything like me, you enjoy learning. Take this down time and use it to learn something new. I’m sure you can think of one subject that you have questions about. The beauty of the internet is that you’re bound to find the answers you’re looking for. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and other streaming services all have great documentary sections. If you’re too tired or exhausted to do research, simply watch and enjoy your new knowledge.
- Clean Your House
This may only apply to me but I feel stressed when things are messy. I also enjoy cleaning. This is probably a weird tip but it might bring you peace and satisfaction to clean. Whether it’s your space or a shared space, take time to do those chores you’ve been putting off. Do what you can and don’t stress if you can’t do anything. Focus on what makes you happy.
- Play Music
Music is something I often turn to in the car but it can be fun and rejuvenating to listen to it at home. When I put showtunes over my speaker, I sing my heart out and it not only lets me get out emotions but it puts me in a good mood. You can sing. You can dance. You can cry. There are a million songs, geared towards every feeling you have. Take time to look up new artists or albums. Let go and relax.
No one likes being stuck inside, especially when Spring is right around the corner. I’ve found solace in taking Crush for walks or playing fetch with him outside. I know that’s not an option for everyone. In a time that is full of frustration and stress, it’s good to let go. Occupy your time with activities that serve you. Set your goals for what you can accomplish during this time. Don’t waste time being angry at the world. This is the situation we’re in, we might as well make the most of it.
