An Update on My New Diagnosis
If you follow my blog regularly, you know that I got a new diagnosis recently. I have been diagnosed with Bile Acid Malabsorption. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, go check out “A New Diagnosis.” Since being diagnosed with BAM, I got started on a new medication. I wanted to give you an update on how things were going.
To help process all of the excessive acid in my stomach, I started taking a new medication. It’s known as Cholestyramine. I take it before lunch and dinner. I couldn’t tell you one thing about this medication besides the fact that it tastes like chalk. All and all though, it’s done what it’s supposed to do. My stomach has reset, for the most part. On the other hand, it’s caused some unpleasant side effects. Since starting the medication, I’ve lost my appetite quite a bit. I either don’t feel like eating or I get sick after eating very little. This has caused me to drop a lot of weight quickly.
If this were any normal situation, losing weight wouldn’t make me bat an eye. I usually exercise 5 times a week and eat a clean healthy diet. Since surgery a few weeks ago, I haven’t exercised at all. Right now, besides not enjoying food the way I used to this has no effect on my normal life. Looking at getting back into exercise, there are natural concerns I have with not being able to eat as much as I used to. In order to exercise, my body needs fuel. If I can’t give it the fuel it needs, I’m either starving it or overworking it.
There are a lot of different connotations to not being able to work out. There are also a lot of consequences to not being able to work out. Either way, I have to find a new way to fuel my body and give it what it needs. I’ve also contacted my doctor in hopes they can give me guidance on what to do moving forward. It may be as simple as trying a new medication. Either way, I’m much more content staying on the medication then going back to how my stomach was before.
If you are dealing with Bile Acid Malabsorption, let me know what your experience has been! Thanks for checking in and I can’t wait to see you back on Friday!
